Dear Neighbors
I am honored to be running to represent Trustee Area 2 and to serve students, families, educators, and communities throughout the entire district.
I believe strong leadership begins with listening, thoughtful collaboration, and a genuine commitment to the people we serve. Our schools and neighborhoods are strongest when families, educators, students, and community members have a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect them.
Throughout this campaign, I look forward to hearing your ideas, concerns, and priorities. Together, we can protect what is working, address the challenges ahead, and build a stronger future for every student and family in our district.
Meet Jeresia Ewell ("Jerry-sha Yule")
I have served the people of California for 17 years through my work in state government, building extensive experience in organizational leadership, personnel policy, and public-sector operations. After earning my law degree and becoming an attorney, I transitioned into practicing administrative law for the State of California.
I also own and operate a boutique legal consulting firm that helps businesses address workplace policies and employment-related matters. In addition, I serve in bar association leadership roles in Sacramento and statewide.
My family and I live in West Roseville, where my children have attended schools in the Roseville City School District. This year, my daughter will be attending Chilton Middle School as a rising sixth grader, and my son will be attending West Park High School as a rising freshman.
My Priorities for Our Schools
I believe every student deserves a safe, supportive, and high-quality education. As a school board member, I will focus on:
- Improving student achievement and expanding academic opportunities. The school board should focus on understanding the underlying factors that contribute to a student’s academic struggles and committing to finding solutions that close the achievement gap.
- Supporting teachers, staff, and classroom resources. Our teachers and school staff are the cornerstone of student success, and they should be included in every conversation about policies and procedures. Their firsthand experience must be the foundation for identifying meaningful ways to strengthen and improve our district as they provide insight on the day-to-day challenges and wins that occur on campus.
- Strengthening communication with parents and families. As conversations around parents’ rights and public school responsibilities continue, our board must work diligently to establish boundaries that prioritize educational success and the health and safety of our students. Our youth need strong support from both their families and their schools to be prepared for the world ahead.
- Promoting safe, welcoming, and inclusive schools. Today, our neighborhoods reflect the variety of backgrounds and experiences found across our nation, and the board must make a deliberate effort to ensure every student and family feels seen and heard by honoring our unique differences and elevating cultural awareness.
- Ensuring district funds are used responsibly and transparently. This is essential to maintaining trust and delivering the best outcomes for students. When families can clearly see how resources are allocated and know those decisions are made with care, it strengthens confidence in the board’s leadership and ensures every dollar directly supports the educational success, safety, and well‑being of our students.
- Preparing students for college, careers, and lifelong success. Our district offers exceptional programs, resources, and curriculum that deserve to be celebrated and continually enriched. At the same time, we must remain vigilant in ensuring that every pathway to post‑secondary success is fully supported, so all students have the opportunity to thrive in ways that align with their strengths and interests.
Why You Should Care (and Vote)
You may not have a student in the district, but you will live with the results.
Today’s high school students will soon become our employees, business owners, neighbors, taxpayers, first responders, and community leaders. When more young people graduate prepared for work, college, and adult responsibilities, the entire community benefits from a stronger workforce, greater economic opportunity, and fewer costly social problems.
People with more education generally experience higher earnings and lower unemployment, and research has linked quality schooling with lower crime and less reliance on public-assistance programs. Strong public schools can also make communities more desirable and help protect local property values.
